Thesis abstract
I aim to develop a three-dimensional resistance–capacitance (RC)-based urban canopy model that captures the spatial heterogeneity of real urban environments while remaining efficient and compatible with urban building energy models. I will represent coupled heat and mass transfer among outdoor air, urban surfaces, indoor spaces, and vegetation through a reduced-order RC network. Three-dimensional radiation and diagnostic wind-field models will provide spatially varying radiative source terms and convective heat-transfer coefficients. I will validate the framework using experimental data, Urban-PLUMBER observations, and the La Goccia case.
Personal interest in my research theme
I am interested in urban microclimates because they connect climate-resilient urban design with building energy performance, outdoor thermal comfort, and public health. I am particularly drawn to the challenge of representing interactions among urban form, airflow, radiation, vegetation, and buildings without relying on computationally intensive CFD simulations. Through my research, I hope to develop a physically interpretable and efficient framework that can support climate-adaptation assessment and better integrate urban microclimate and building energy analysis.
