Thesis abstract

My PhD project focuses on the development of a high-fidelity numerical framework for predicting wind turbine noise in realistic environmental conditions. The work combines flow field simulations, aeroacoustic source modeling, and sound propagation tools to describe the full chain from noise generation to receiver exposure. Particular attention is devoted to the effects of atmospheric conditions and complex terrain, which strongly influence both wake development and acoustic transmission. The final objective is to provide a reliable and advanced tool for wind turbine noise assessment under non-ideal operating and environmental conditions.

Personal interest in my research theme

I chose this research topic because it combines my interest in CFD and numerical methods, developed during my Master’s thesis, with my interest in contributing to the transition toward more sustainable energy systems. What I find most interesting is the possibility of combining flow physics and acoustics to address a relevant problem such as wind turbine noise. I find this work meaningful because it improves the understanding of the environmental impact of wind energy and can support its more sustainable and socially acceptable development.
